The MSU Men’s Rugby Club competed against Colorado School of Mines, the defending conference champions, on Oct. 8. After a hard-fought battle, the Cats lost 30-22 on an intercepted pass in the final seconds of the game.
The Cats started off strong and led 15-8 at halftime after a score from Dillon Ecord and a conversion by team captain Ben Morris. After half, Connor Webb scored a try and a conversion to put the Cats up 22-8. Within the last minutes, Mines responded to MSU’s tries with a couple of their own to lead by one point. The Cats were close to scoring, but Mines intercepted the pass and ran for a try of their own.
“We’ve progressed a lot from the beginning of this season through the devotion displayed by all players on our team, both new and old. The depth that our young talent brings will provide us with the tools necessary to win this conference,” Head Coach Joe Williams said.
The MSU Men’s Rugby Club faces the Air Force Academy in Laramie, Wyoming on Oct. 15. The fall season will conclude with a home game against Colorado Mesa on Oct. 22, and playoffs begin Oct. 29.
