After another loss for the Bobcat volleyball team, the Cats returned to Bozeman Oct. 1 for the highly anticipated Cat-Griz battle. They lost to Portland State University in three sets on Sept. 29, but the team recovered and beat the Griz four sets to one.
MSU lost the first set 25-22, but rallied and won the next three 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22. This was the first conference win and third overall win for the Cats. Their first two wins came early in the season in tournament play against Grand Canyon University and Jacksonville State.
Freshman Caitlin Lonergan led the team in kills with 17, and junior Kiana Black ended with 10. Both also had two kills each. Junior Katie Rutecki led in assists with 27, freshman Sydney Mathison had 17. Freshman Alyssa Rizzo led in digs, with a total of 19. Junior Audra Dugan, senior Eli Svisco and Black led in blocks with seven, five and five, respectively.
The Bobcats will look to win more conference games Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 against Weber State and Idaho State. The game on Oct. 6 will begin at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym. The Idaho State game will begin at 12 p.m.
