The MSU volleyball team kicked off conference play with two home games. The Cats played University of Idaho on Sept. 22 and Eastern Washington University on Sept. 24. The team lost both matches three games to one.
The set scores in the match against Idaho were 25-23, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-19. Sophomore Chase Doughty led the team in kills with 13, junior Katie Rutecki led in assists with 25 and freshman Alyssa Rizzo led in digs with 13. Rutecki, Doughty and junior Kiana Black each scored one ace.
The Bobcats had one day of practice before their next match against Eastern Washington. They played four sets with scores of 25-17, 25-17, 11-25 and 25-18. Game leaders for the Cats were senior Eli Svisco with 10 kills, Rutecki with 21 assists, freshman Sydney Mathison with seven digs and Black with seven blocks. Freshman Caitlin Lonergan scored two aces.
The Cats will continue conference play in a match against Portland State University on Sept. 29 and will return home to play the University of Montana in a rival match on Oct. 1. The game will begin at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
