The men’s and women’s tennis teams each competed in fall invitationals: the men played in the Weber State Fall Invitational, while the women played in the Utah State Aggie Invite. The Weber State Invitational took place Sept. 23-25. The tournament was delayed multiple times due to tornado warnings. The women competed in Utah the same weekend.
On the men’s side, MSU took home three titles. Junior Adrian Torrico won three straight matches to compete in the Flight B singles championship and won 6-1 and 6-2 to claim his title. Torrico also played with senior Kellen Bates to win the Flight A doubles championship. Bates will compete against his teammate, junior Rok Sitar, in the Flight A singles championship. The match will take place in Bozeman due to the multiple weather delays.
The women also had a successful tournament, with senior Laura Middel and freshman Chloe Goyette competing for the singles title. Goyette won the match 6-3 and 6-1 to win the championship. Middel and senior Naomi Holopainen competed in the doubles championship, but lost to a Utah State team 6-4.
The teams will be competing in a few fall tournaments to warm up for the spring season. The women will compete next on Oct. 12-16 in the ITA Regionals in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
