Tennis winds down home season

The Bobcat tennis teams finished their home season with a men’s duel versus the University of Montana, and the women’s team playing three duels in three days.

The men’s team played the Griz on April 18 in Bozeman and fell short in the end, 5-2. Montana won five of the six singles matches, while the Bobcats captured the doubles points as Bobcats Andre Napoliatano and Kellen Bates defeated UM’s Tomasz Soltyka and Peter Mimnagh-Fleming. Bobcats Niklas Brandes and Javier Martin-Morillas also teamed up to take down UM’s Semion Branzburg and Yannick Schmidl. Napoliatano also won the No. 1 singles match for the Bobcats.

The women’s team competed in a string of home matches to close out the regular season. The Cats defeated the Idaho State Bengals on April 17, with a score of 5-2. The Bobcats captured five of the six singles matches to secure the win. Bobcats Laura Middel, Wanda Holopainen, Jessica Brycki, Angelina Philippova and Liana Bates all won their singles matches. Middel and Brycki also teamed up to defeat ISU’s Kasey Bacon and Marian Tangarife in doubles action.

On April 18, the Bobcat women lost to Northern Arizona 5-2. Brycki defeated NAU’s Emilia Box, and partnered with Middel to defeat Johanna Vang and Marta Lewandowska. Bobcats Philippova and Molly Crum also defeated NAU’s Sarah Maria Spruch and Livia Hollosy.

To conclude the busy weekend the Bobcats faced the Weber State Wildcats. The Wildcats defeated the Bobcats 4-3 to end the Bobcats’ season. Brycki had another victory, easily defeating Wildcat Dominique Beauvais. Philippova also registered a victory, defeating Emily Tanner. The Brycki/Middel duo recorded yet another win against Weber’s Agata Bachanek and Kristi Elmer, and MSU’s Holopainen and Bates took down the Wildcats’ Beauvais and Romy Dodd-Stephens. MSU pair Philippova and Crum defeated WSU’s Emily Tanner and Megan Rindlsbacher.
