Montana State’s Cristian Soratos finished second in the nation in the indoor mile on March 14 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The senior, named the Mountain West Region’s Outstanding Track Athlete for the 2015 indoor season, grabbed silver with a time of 3:59.86. Soratos qualified with the fastest preliminary time, but was edged in the finals by Oregon standout Edward Cheserak who finished with a time of 3:57.94.
Soratos’ second place finish may be a bit bittersweet considering he ran the fastest time in the nation this season, running a blazing fast 3:55.27 at the University of Washington’s Husky Invitational in late February. However, Soratos earned first team All-American honors with his finish in Arkansas. On the season, Soratos piled on the accolades, including the Big Sky Conference Outstanding Male Athlete award.
The senior still has more opportunities to add to his already impressive career in the upcoming outdoor season. He and the rest of the Bobcat track and field team will kick off the outdoor season on March 27 in Missoula.
