Bobcat Track and Field took to the fieldhouse for another home meet last Friday, Feb. 13. Both UM and Weber State joined them in a double dual meet where athletes competed to hit Big Sky Conference (BSC) standards. A number of MSU’s own hit these marks in their respective events.
Starting with the field competition, senior Ryan Kropp and his freshman teammate Austin Decker were one and two in the pole vault, with Decker reaching the BSC qualifying mark, joining Kropp who qualified in a prior meet. Senior thrower Sean Ferriter successfully surpassed his closest competitor by over five feet in the weight throw while junior Zach Sharp hit a BSC standard in the same event.
Bobcat senior sprinter Chantel Jaeger set a new school record in the 200 at 24.20 seconds and hit her 400 in 54.36. On the men’s side, senior Michael Tobin and freshman Mitchell Horning took second and third in the 60-meter dash behind Weber State’s Tony Osheku Jr. Distance runners Rachel Sullivan and Keely West ran the 3,000 meters in 10:22 and 10:25 respectively while seniors Trevor Polson and Seth Garbett ran the same event in 8:32 and 8:46.
In the 800 meters sophomore Kaylee Schmitz and senior Lierin Flanagan took first and second in 2:13 and 2:14 respectively. Freshman Jory Fisher took first in his heat of the 800 in a time of 1:55.
Final results brought the men’s team with 80-64 over Weber State and 83-65 over UM. The women beat Weber with 88-55 and 91-56 over UM.
The Cats compete in the last regular meet of the season at home on Feb. 20. The meet starts at 4 p.m. in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
