Three Bobcats traveled to Seattle to take part in the Washington Husky Classic last Saturday, Feb. 14. Senior distance/middle distance runners Heather Demorest, Cristian Soratos and Matt Tex each earned season or lifetime bests at the event, moving up spots on MSU’s top-ten list and making jumps in both conference and national standings.
Soratos posted a 3:55.27 mile, unadjusted, which broke the MSU and Big Sky Conference record, and also gave him the fastest time in the country this year, by almost two seconds. Tex finished ninth overall after running a season-best 1:49.79 800 meter. Demorest ran a lifetime best 3,000 meter in 9:28.36, which was good enough for 28th place at the meet. It also gave her the top time in the conference this season.
With his record breaking performance, Soratos nabbed his fourth Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honor this year.
