Coming off a tight win over Utah State on Oct. 4, the Bobcats were well poised to take on conference opponent Weber State on Saturday. The two teams played during the spring season, with Weber getting the win, so the Bobcats wanted to avenge that loss. Though the Cats were again outsized, their will was never in question.
The Cats set the tone early on and made certain the match would not be left to chance. A penalty kick from Haydn McDuff and a try from wing Brad Turnbaugh gave the Cats an early lead. Josh Creveling added another score with some elusive ball handling to widen the gap for the Bobcats. Weber State threatened and drove deep into Bobcats’ territory, but the Bobcats defense held strong, preventing any score until the final twenty minutes.
“Our focus was undivided from each and every minute of the match,” Collin LaPorte said postgame.
In his final match as a Bobcat, wing Tanner Palmer put down the try in the corner to seal the deal as the Bobcats got the victory with a 23-5 win. Other key performers for the Cats included Kyle Alvarez, Dillon Ecord, Ben Humphries and Will Russell-Yarde. The Bobcats return to the pitch in February, taking a trip to Las Vegas for the annual Sevens Tournament.
