The Cats got off to a slow start against the UM Grizzlies Monday, March 3, but managed to keep the score within five points the entire first half. UM started the scoring two minutes into the game and the Cats were forced behind until the 11:31 mark when sophomore guard Margreet Barhoum scored a three pointer to give the Cats their first lead of the game, 12-10.
The Cats held onto the lead until 7:42 in the first half and the rest of the first half was back and forth. At halftime the teams headed to the locker room with MSU up by one point, 29-28.
Head coach Tricia Binford spoke briefly about the game, “As always the Cat/Griz game was tight until the wire. Our team had a great defensive effort in the first half to go into the locker room with the lead. Unfortunately in the second half we couldn’t capitalize on the offensive end down the stretch.”
The Griz came out after halftime firing on all cylinders and led most of the second half. The last two minutes of the game were penalty ridden, and the Bobcats (13-14, 8-10) came up on the losing end of the in-state rivalry, 72-65.
The women wrap up their season this week, taking on Northern Arizona on March 6, and Sacramento State on March 8.
