The Bobcats were able to show off their strengths with many excellent performances in a wide array of events. Junior sprinter Chantel Jaeger won two events individually, while also helping the women’s 4×400 relay to victory as she ran the third leg.
On the men’s side, senior sprinter Chris Wilson won the 55 and 200 meter dash, and made qualifying times for the Big Sky Conference Championships. With each meet, the athletes strive to make qualifying marks for the Big Sky Championships in an effort to have as many athletes as possible in attendance. Senior middle-distance runner Lierin Flanagan said, “Already, the women’s team has 15 automatic qualifiers or are within the top 16. Our men’s side is right there as well. I’m impressed but not surprised by our talents being shown so early in the season.”
This meet was an excellent start to the season, with numerous athletes achieving qualifying scores and lifetime bests. Some of these marks included senior distance runner Trevor Polson’s mile time of 4:14, as well as junior middle-distance runner Iris Hardarson’s third place finish in the 800 meter dash in 2:13 and sophomore distance runner Christie Schiel in fourth with 2:14. These athletes exemplified the potential the women’s and men’s teams possess, and what the team must build on for next week’s double dual meet against UM and Idaho State.
