The Montana State University football team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas. to take on Stephen F. Austin University (SFA). With an all-time record of 4-1 against SFA, the Cats defeated the Lumberjacks last year in Bozeman with a score of 40-35. MSU ran for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and held onto the lead to squeak by with the win.
Jake Bleskin will continue to take the reins as quarterback. After an impressive first game, Bleskin must keep up his stance as the leader of the team until DeNarius McGhee returns. He will meet an SFU team that has already racked up 103 points in three games.
Lumberjacks senior quarterback Brady Attaway is looking to make his last year on the team his best. Attaway likes to keep it in the air, as shown by his game against MSU last year where he threw for 418 yards. In SFA’s home opener, he threw for 330 yards.
Shutting down their passing game will be crucial if the Bobcats, hope to gain another win. Senior running back Cody Kirk is the MSU all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with nine regular season games to go. Using his ability to find small holes and break through, Kirk will be looking to add to his career numbers in this game.
Stephen F. Austin is 19-4 at home since 2009. While I do not think crowd noise will be a factor (average of 4,000 per game) the Bobcats still need to focus on shutting down the Lumberjacks’ quick offensive style, leaves little time for the defense to catch their breath.
Even with the Texas home field advantage, I still think the Bobcats will maintain control and come through with a victory. MSU’s powerful defense can adapt to any situation and shut down the run, but if the backfield can do the same, it should be a one-sided game. I predict a score of 42-24 in favor of MSU.
