The MSU Cross Country team started their season last Saturday with the MSU Invitational at Bridger Creek Golf Course. Heather Demorest finished 6th in the women’s three-mile race with a time of 17:41. Trevor Polson finished 7th in the men’s five-mile race with a time of 25:15, followed by Cristian Soratos at 25:17 in 8th and Jacob Kirk at 25:25 in 9th.
“I think the team did well, and I believe this was a good start to the season,” said sophomore Matt Tex.
According to Head Coach Dale Kennedy, this is the best start to the season since 2002. With that in mind, Kennedy is hoping the team will continue to perform at their best and finish the season in the top three of the Big Sky Conference.
Every race has individual scores and an overall team score. “I love running with the team, and having them push me forward when it starts to get hard,” said freshman Rachel Atwood.
The MSU women took first, while the men finished third. The next meet is the Montana Invitational in Missoula on Sept. 28.
