Seventh annual National Food Day

Students from the Montana Student Dietetics Association, and enrolled in Anne Shovic’s Nutrition in the Lifecycle class, partnered with the Office of Student Engagement to celebrate the 7th National Food Day in the SUB ballrooms on Oct. 31. Students, along with several local organizations, set up an assortment of booths dedicated toward living a sustainable lifestyle.

Breaking away from Halloween’s tradition of candy worship, student-run booths offered healthy snacks and their recipes, tips to prevent food waste and “tricks to burn off those treats.” Campus organizations like Bounty of the Bridgers explained details on the food pantry available for students, and Gallatin Valley Farm to School offered volunteer and internship opportunities to teach grade school students the importance of nutrition.

Shovic described the occasion as “a nice break from the classroom.” The event gives students an opportunity to use what they have learned in order to spread more awareness about how to maintain a sustainable lifestyle.
