Cats for cats: helping shelter animals in need

On Friday, Oct. 28, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society will be collecting donations in the SUB marketplace for Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter. Donations can consist of cash, check, pet store gift cards or items found on the Heart of the Valley wish list. This fundraiser, entitled Cats for Cats, aims to help the shelter’s cat population, which “is often lacking in supplies compared to that of the dogs,” according to Micaela Moreni, president of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

Heart of the Valley is a private, nonprofit animal shelter that serves Gallatin and Madison valleys. Having an open door policy, Heart of the Valley will, “accept any lost, abandoned or surrendered companion animals (cats or dogs) from anywhere,” as stated on their website. No animal will be dismissed or euthanized due to space issues. Last year, Heart of the Valley reunited 551 pets with their families and found new homes for 1,469 animals.
