In the seventh time in eight years, MSU set an enrollment record for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
According to MSU officials, this year MSU’s enrollment reached 15,294 students, up 634 from last year’s 14,660 students. The growth makes MSU Montana’s largest university, with the University of Montana’s enrollment falling by 418 to 14,525 students.
This increase comes in the form of several categories, including freshman class size, number of undergraduate students, graduate students, veterans, Montana residents and non-traditional students.
MSU’s retention rates also rose this year. Boasting a two point raise from 74.3 percent to 76.4, the Freshman to Sophomore retention rates are a good early indicator of students that will complete their degrees at MSU.
MSU President Waded Cruzado said, “We are very pleased to learn that both our enrollment and retention rates are at historic highs at Montana State University.”
