One dead, two injured after Bozeman shooting

A shooting in the early hours of Friday, Sept. 20, has left 24-year-old Larry Clayton dead and two others injured.

Police arrested Cody Christopher Little, 25, and charged him with two counts of attempted deliberate homicide and another count of assault with a weapon. However, on Tuesday, County Attorney Marty Lambert said he plans to file a motion to make one of the charges deliberate homicide after Clayton, who was a Bozeman resident, died on Saturday morning. Little remains in jail with a bail set at $1.25 million.

According to the Bozeman Police Department, the incident took place just after 4 a.m. on the corner of Ferguson Avenue and Monroe Street. The altercation resulted as from an argument that occured at a nearby house party. The suspect, who had left the party and returned with a shotgun, approached a driveway area and fired several shots. Bozeman Police arrived minutes later and detained the suspect as well as the weapon.

The two surviving victims suffered leg injuries, and one was taken to a Billings hospital. Clayton was being treated at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center at the time of his death.

The Bozeman Police Department is continuing the investigation.
