Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been chosen as MSU’s 2012 Freshman Convocation speaker. Her memoir, “Extraordinary, Ordinary People,” will be read by incoming freshmen over the summer.

The memoir, an account of Rice’s youth in the segregated south, will be discussed in courses throughout campus this fall.

After serving as the 66th Secretary of State, Rice is now a professor of political economy at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, as well as the Thomas and Barbara Senior Fellow on Public Policy and a professor of political science at Stanford’s Hoover Institution.

Additionally, Rice will perform on the piano during her visit to Bozeman this fall.  She has previously performed in Bozeman with the visiting Muir String Quartet and with MSU Honors Program Director Ilse-Mari Lee.

The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 5. Visit http://www.montana.edu/convocation/ for more information.
