Frozen chai latte for a hot day

Now that it’s warming up, cool drinks are sounding more and more appealing every day. One of the easiest frozen drinks to make is a frozen chai latte. To make this recipe, you’ll need chai tea (or another black tea substitute), sugar, vanilla extract, milk, ice and caramel sauce.

First, brew the tea in water. You’ll need about one cup of tea per drink. The more tea bags you use, the stronger the brew will be, so take that into account. However, if you’re going for a low strength tea, two teabags is a good number. Brew at a rolling boil to get the best taste from your tea.

After the tea is brewed, put it in the fridge to cool. If you want your drink thicker than normal, feel free to throw it in the freezer to create a slushy tea. While your tea is cooling, heat up two tablespoons of sugar and two tablespoons of water over medium heat. Stir the sugar until it dissolves into the water, and then mix in a drop or two of vanilla extract, and remove from the heat.

Now, take your tea, vanilla syrup and one-half cup of milk and put them all in a blender, along with one cup of ice. Any kind of milk can be used here, but a good substitute for dairy milk is almond milk. Blend until smooth.

Finally, pour into a cup or mug and top with whipped cream and caramel syrup.

This recipe makes one drink at a time, and can be easily modified to add spices or chilled espresso. Just make sure to add more ice with more liquid, and less ice for less liquid, otherwise the drink will end up less like a smoothie and more like a slushy.
