Tater Tot Casserole: A new twist on an old favorite

Since the 1950’s, casseroles have been an incredibly popular American dish. They’re classic. Over the years, however, people have thought up brilliant new concepts — one of those concepts being a ‘hot dish.’ A hot dish is a sort of subset of casserole that specializes in starch, meat, canned soup and occasionally frozen/canned vegetables. Things like potatoes and starches were used in the past, but now, rice and tater tots have become quite popular.

I’m going to cover one of the most increasingly popular hot dishes: Tater Tot Casserole.  It’s the perfect dish to have on a chilly weekend with your friends and family, especially with cool weather. Now if you haven’t had it, you’ll want to get on it.

Not only does it taste amazing, but with only five ingredients, Tater Tot Casserole is easy to make! Keep in mind, the measurements for the ingredients are relative based on serving size as well as the size of your cooking materials, so accommodate as needed. The ingredients needed are: 2 pounds ground beef, 1 – 2 cans of 10.5 oz. cream of mushroom soup, Tater-tots, salt and pepper. If you do follow these instructions exactly, expect to end up with four to six servings
In a large pan, brown the ground beef on medium heat. When it turns brown, take it off the heat. Add seasonings to taste, then drain the grease. Next add the cream of mushroom soup to the pan of beef. Cook the mixture on medium until it’s thins (it’ll be a thicker consistency beforehand). Grab a 9×13 casserole dish (or whatever casserole dish you have, this is just my preference), and spread the beef mixture in it. Once it’s spread, cover the mixture with shredded cheese. Top it off with tater-tots, then put the dish in the oven at 350° for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted/bubbly and the tots are golden brown. Wait for it to cool down and enjoy!
