Music on Main: The Ultimate Summer Experience

June 28 marks the start of one of Bozeman’s finest traditions: Music on Main. Music on Main is a free, community-inspired event, bringing together Bozemanites of all ages for food, fun and most importantly, local music.

This event caters to all ages. First Security Bank will host activities for the youngest generation until 8:00 p.m., while those over the age of 21 will be allowed to have alcohol in the street until 9:00 p.m., provided it is secured in a plastic cup supplied by one of the surrounding bars or restaurants. Music starts at 7:00 p.m.

“No really,” said Bozeman native James Blazevich, “the booze on Main Street and the music and friends are great, but the kettle corn seals the deal.”

For the past 12 years, Music on Main (affectionately called MoM by many regular attendees) has provided the Bozeman community with a unique way to enjoy each other’s company and strengthen our small-town bond. People look forward to it every year because of its open and engaging vibe.

Ashley Johnson has attended MoM the last three summers. “Music on Main is a wonderful chance to escape the work week, listen to music, run into people you might not otherwise have a chance to see, and get to Friday a little more easily,” she said. “Plus, the food and drinks are awesome.”

While the event is fairly relaxed, Downtown Bozeman does ask that the public adhere to a few rules: No backpacks, no dogs and no outside alcohol. They also remind those who consume alcohol that the open container waiver only allows for outdoor drinking on those Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Anyone found with an open container outside this time slot could be subject to a $100 fine.

The rules shouldn’t deter anyone from participating, however. MoM is a true Bozeman experience, and a damn good time. The fun begins in just a few short weeks!
